My review
Review written with access before release.
And to finish, something completely different. The Diplomat is one of those political thrillers that hook you without you noticing. The fourth season picks up right where we left off: Kate Wyler (a terrific Keri Russell) discovers that her husband, Hal, and President Grace Penn are involved in the theft of a Russian nuclear weapon.
What I like most about this series is that it is not only politics. It is a drama about two marriages on the edge of collapse. On one side, Kate and Hal, whose relationship was already damaged and now faces a crisis that could destroy it completely. On the other, Grace and Todd Penn (Allison Janney and Bradley Whitford, who are terrific), a couple dealing with their own tensions while trying to stop the alliance between the United States and the United Kingdom from falling apart.
Netflix sums it up in its synopsis: “Two marriages threaten to eat each other alive”. And that is exactly it. Season 4 is more intense, more twisted and more thrilling than the earlier ones. If you like political series with complex characters and sharp dialogue, do not miss it. It arrives complete on Netflix on 15 October.
