How the final phase works

Under the competition rules the LPF published in January 2026, the first-placed team of each conference goes straight to the semifinals, while the second and third play a single-match playoff. Semifinals are two legs, and the final is one match. That text covers the 2026 Clausura; for the Apertura, the LPF has not published its own rulebook in what was consulted.

  1. Regular season: each club plays 16 matches, and the leader of each conference goes straight to the semifinals.
  2. Playoff: the East’s second hosts the West’s third, and the West’s second hosts the East’s third, in one knockout match.
  3. Semifinals: each conference leader faces a playoff winner over two legs. The leaders host the second leg.
  4. Final: a single match between the two winners. The club ranked higher in the regular season is the home side.

That structure matches the LPF’s announcement that Plaza Amador qualified directly for the semifinals. Table ties are settled by goal difference, goals scored and results between the tied clubs, among other criteria in the competition rules.

Where to start: wait for the end of round 16 to learn who plays the playoff, since second and third place in each conference remain open.

Dates for the playoffs, semifinals and final

Under the calendar La Prensa published on 8 July 2026, the final phase runs as follows: playoffs on 14 and 15 November, two-leg semifinals between Saturday 21 and Friday 27 November, and the grand final on Saturday 5 December at 6:15 p.m. at the Rommel Fernández stadium.

The LPF homepage announces a ticket promotion for the “Gran Final TA2026,” with no date in the text consulted. The exact pairings, with the day and time of each match, are known only once the regular season closes. This note is updated with those details.

Key fact: the initial calendar sets the Apertura grand final for Saturday 5 December 2026 at 6:15 p.m. at the Rommel Fernández stadium (La Prensa).
Where to start: mark 8 November as the day the bracket is settled and come back to this note for the pairings.

Where to watch the LPF from Panama

LPF matches can be watched on TVMAX, TVN’s sports channel, and online on TVN Pass; RPC broadcasts some games. The assignment changes by match: in round 15, the RPC article names a channel only for San Francisco vs. Unión Coclé, which airs on RPC. For the rest, the channel is confirmed each round.

The La Chorrera derby between Independiente and San Francisco, on 1 November, was broadcast on TVMAX and TVN Pass, according to TVN. The LPF also posts round highlights on its official YouTube channel. None of the pages consulted gives a full list of channels per match or subscription prices.

Where to start: check the TVMAX and RPC schedules on match day and, for the national team, Radar’s note on the next Panama national team match.

Myths and facts

  • Myth: the final is played over two legs. Fact: the LPF rules set a single match for the final; two legs apply to the semifinals.
  • Myth: every team near the top of the overall table qualifies. Fact: qualification is by conference, not overall table: the leader goes straight to the semifinals and second and third play a playoff.
  • Myth: every match is on the same channel. Fact: broadcasts are split among TVMAX, TVN Pass and RPC, and confirmed round by round.
  • Myth: the November and December dates are final. Fact: they come from the initial calendar and the LPF can adjust them.
Where to start: check any date in this note against the LPF calendar before planning to attend a match.
