When Cyber Monday is in Panama

Cyber Monday is, by definition, the Monday after US Thanksgiving. According to the Wikipedia entry on Cyber Monday, the term was coined in 2005 by Ellen Davis of the National Retail Federation to promote online shopping, and in 2026 it falls on November 30. Thanksgiving is on Thursday, November 26, Black Friday on Friday, November 27, and Cyber Monday four days later, on Monday, November 30.

Panamanian retailers usually follow that date. In 2025, according to La Prensa, most stores switched on online-only discounts on Monday, December 1, within a sales period running from November 28 to December 8. For 2026, as checked on October 13, 2026, no announcement with official dates for a Panamanian Cyber Monday turned up; each store sets its dates on its site or social media.

Key fact: Cyber Monday 2026 falls on Monday, November 30, and in Panama each retailer decides whether to take part, how long it lasts and which products it covers.

How it differs from Black Friday

Radar’s piece on Black Friday in Panama already covers the Friday, November 27 date, the November 28 holiday and the Panamá Black Weekend. The table compares the three events.

Which Panamanian stores announce it

As of October 13, 2026, two Panamanian stores had a page online carrying the event’s name. Rodelag keeps a collection titled “Cyber Monday Rodelag 2026”, which listed 293 products when checked. Tiendas ADOC has a Cyber Monday page with a 50% discount on ADOC-brand items. Neither page showed validity dates, so the period and conditions are confirmed with each store.

The list is partial. Panamanian law requires every offer to state its duration or minimum number of units, and Acodeco asked shoppers on October 1, 2026 to verify validity.

How to shop online safely

Acodeco sums up its advice this way: check before buying, compare while buying and report any irregularity. Security authorities, quoted by TVN Noticias on September 29, 2026, add internet warnings:

  1. Confirm the platform is legitimate. Authorities recommend checking before paying.
  2. Be wary of prices that look too low. DIJ Major Jahat Bliss called them an “alert”.
  3. Check the seller profile’s age and verification. Unverified or recently created profiles are among the signs of a scam.
  4. Never share passwords, security codes or banking details through links received in messages or social media.
  5. Compare prices and verify the discount. Acodeco asks shoppers to check that the advertised discount matches the price charged.
  6. Keep the ad, the invoice and the warranty. Per Acodeco, they support any later claim.

Shipments from abroad add freight and import charges, as the Black Friday piece explains.

Consumer rights in an online purchase

Under its article 2, Law 45 of 2007 applies to acts or practices that take effect in Panama, wherever they are completed. Several rules matter for an online store:

What Law 45 saysArticle
Any offer or advertising, through any medium, binds the supplier and becomes part of the sales contract38
The supplier must state conditions and warranties, and issue an invoice with RUC, goods, price and delivery date36
Offers must state their conditions and duration or units59 and 62
A markdown shows the lowest price of the past three months64
Faced with misleading advertising, the consumer may cancel the contract59

The law has no dedicated e-commerce chapter; these general rules are the ones invoked in an online complaint.

Returns and warranty: what applies and what does not

Returns for a change of mind are not regulated. In 2023 Acodeco explained, according to Metro Libre, that the only withdrawal right is the one in article 71, which gives three business days to revoke acceptance in door-to-door sales of goods, with return costs borne by the supplier. That article speaks of door-to-door sales and does not mention internet sales. Exchanges for color, size or price are voluntary on each store’s part.

What does exist is the warranty. Under article 42, a new good carries an implied warranty of normal operation; if it could not be used from the start and the item and packaging are in good condition, the supplier replaces it or refunds the amount paid. Article 57 bars forcing a store credit on a buyer who paid in cash.

The warranty is also the most frequent source of complaints. Acodeco reported on August 24, 2026 that from January to July, 770 of the 1,969 complaints received concerned warranty breaches. Its advice is to claim first from the supplier, keep proof and go to Acodeco if there is no answer. The National Consumer Protection Directorate decides complaints of up to B/.5,000 and can order replacement, repair or a refund.

Acodeco takes complaints online about warranty breaches, misleading advertising or missing information.
