JETOUR G700 or Toyota Land Cruiser Prado: which off-roader suits Panama

In short: The JETOUR G700 and the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado compete for the same buyer in Panama with opposite recipes. The G700 is a ladder-frame plug-in hybrid off-roader with 892 hp, 1,135 Nm, 100 km of electric range on the WLTC cycle, 230 mm of ground clearance and a 900 mm wading depth. The Prado 250 relies on a 2.8 turbodiesel with 201 hp and 500 Nm, permanent 4WD and five stars in the Australian ANCAP test. The G700 wins on performance, equipment and everyday electric use; the Prado, on track record, service network and resale value. The choice depends on what weighs more: technology or history. The current price of each version is published by the distributor.

Two recipes for the same terrain

The Land Cruiser Prado has spent decades as the yardstick for large off-roaders in Panama. Its formula is familiar: a diesel engine, permanent four-wheel drive and a reputation for endurance built on the country’s rural roads. The JETOUR G700 arrived in January 2026, with Panama as the first market in the Americas to receive it, and was officially presented in May. It keeps the traditional base, the ladder frame, but drives it with a 2.0 turbo petrol engine and two electric motors fed by a 34.1 kWh battery that recharges from a socket.

The underlying difference lies not in size or off-road ability but in weekday use. With 100 km of electric range, the G700 can cover typical urban journeys without starting the petrol engine; the Prado offers the simplicity of refuelling with diesel at any station in the country. Anyone wishing to understand the technology better will find an explanation in the guide to plug-in hybrids in Panama.

Citable fact: The JETOUR G700 delivers 892 hp and 1,135 Nm, more than four times the power and more than twice the torque of the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 250 with the 2.8 turbodiesel engine, which is rated at 201 hp and 500 Nm.

The G700 is 273 mm longer and has 25 mm more ground clearance. Its wading ability has a public test behind it: in October 2025 a unit crossed the Yangtze River in China by water, as CarNewsChina documented, a story Radar Panamá revisits in the SUV that crossed the Yangtze River. On equipment, the 6-seat version adds double-wishbone suspension on both axles, a 15.6-inch central screen and 360° cameras.

Safety and warranty

Here each has a different argument. The G700 carries more airbags but does not yet have a rating from an NCAP programme; the Prado does hold five stars from the Australian body.

What a spec sheet does not measure

The Prado keeps three advantages that appear in no table: a very widespread service network in the country, a turbodiesel engine with a proven record and many years of reliability and resale history. The G700 was launched in 2025 and that history is still to be written.

The specialist press has been favourable to the newcomer. In Australia, carsales.com.au gave it 87 points out of 100 and highlighted its quietness, comfort and off-road performance. In Panama, Deagencia praised its equipment and driver aids, while warning that a unit needs to be assessed in depth to learn its possible weak points.

What is worth comparing before deciding

  1. Real weekday use. If daily journeys fit within 100 km and there is somewhere to charge at home, the plug-in hybrid makes the most of its advantage; without a socket, it loses much of it.
  2. Current price and version. The up-to-date price of each version is published by Petromotors, JETOUR’s official distributor; it is worth requesting it in writing together with the exact equipment.
  3. Nearest workshop. The Petromotors branch network and that of the Toyota dealer in relation to the area of residence.
  4. Test drive. Trying both on the same kind of route clarifies more than any figure.

Who each one is for

  • JETOUR G700: for anyone seeking maximum power and equipment, wanting to drive in electric mode in the city and valuing a 7-year factory warranty, while accepting that the model has no local track record or NCAP rating yet.
  • Toyota Land Cruiser Prado: for anyone prioritising familiar diesel mechanics, a broad service network, five ANCAP stars and already proven resale value, albeit with far more modest power figures.

Where to see the G700

The G700 is on display at the Panama Motor Show 2026, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 11 October at the Panama Convention Center in Amador, and at Petromotors branches, where a test drive can be booked.
