JETOUR warranty in Panama: what it covers, what it excludes and what voids it

JETOUR warranty in Panama: what it covers, what it excludes and what voids it

In short: New JETOUR vehicles sold by Petromotors, the brand’s official distributor in Panama, carry a warranty of 7 years or 200,000 km, whichever comes first, and the battery of the plug-in hybrids is covered for 8 years or 150,000 km. That headline figure does not apply equally to the whole vehicle: according to the warranty document the distributor hands to the owner, the transmission, the audio system, the 12 V battery and wear parts have their own, shorter terms. Cover includes parts and labour, applies only within Panama and depends on one condition: having every service done on time at Petromotors workshops. This guide sets out what it covers, what it leaves out and what voids it.

The warranty in one sentence

Citable fact: The JETOUR warranty in Panama is 7 years or 200,000 km, whichever comes first, and the high-voltage battery of the plug-in hybrids has 8 years or 150,000 km, according to Petromotors, the brand’s official distributor in the country.

The term starts on the date of first purchase, the one shown on the invoice, or on the official handover of the vehicle. It protects against defects in materials and manufacturing faults, not against use: if a covered part fails because of an original defect, the distributor repairs it without charging for either the part or the workshop hours. Those seven years come with conditions, and a warranty is rarely lost because of the breakdown itself: it is lost because of a service that was late or done at another workshop.

What voids the warranty

CauseHow to avoid it
Scheduled services skipped or done lateFollowing the schedule in the manual, by time or by mileage, whichever comes first
Repairs or servicing outside the Petromotors networkAlways taking the vehicle to one of the distributor’s workshops
Parts that are neither original nor recommended by the manufacturerAsking for original parts and keeping the invoice
Collision repaired without original parts or outside authorised workshopsArranging with the insurer for the repair to be done in the official network
Use other than that stated in the manualRespecting load limits and the intended type of use
Altered mileageNever tampering with the odometer under any circumstances

Five steps to keep the warranty

  1. Keeping the invoice and the warranty document. The invoice or handover date marks the start of the seven years.
  2. Having every service done on time. The interval is measured in months or kilometres; whichever comes first counts.
  3. Servicing only at Petromotors workshops. An oil change at a workshop outside the network is enough to affect cover.
  4. Using recommended parts, oils and fuel. Damage caused by lubricants or fuels other than those specified is excluded.
  5. Repairing collision damage in the official network. After a crash, the repair must be done with original parts at an authorised workshop.

What it covers: terms by component

The 7 years or 200,000 km cover is the general one. The same document sets specific terms for certain groups of parts; in every case, whichever comes first applies.

ComponentTermMileage
General vehicle warranty and alarm system7 years200,000 km
High-voltage battery, electric motor and controller (hybrids and electric vehicles)8 years150,000 km
Transmission, alternator, starter motor, calipers, upholstery and chrome trim48 months100,000 km
Paint, glass, mirrors, electrical components, injectors, brake discs, shock absorbers, air-conditioning compressor36 months60,000 km
Audio system: screen, modules, wiring, amplifiers and speakers36 months60,000 km
Original 12 V battery12 months20,000 km
Accessories fitted by the brand6 monthsUnlimited
Wear parts: filters, spark plugs, brake pads, clutch plate, tyres, wiper blades, fuses3 months5,000 km

Some parts, such as the water pump, the exhaust or the sensors, appear in more than one group within the document, so it is worth confirming with the distributor which term applies to them.

What it does not cover

ExclusionExamples
Normal wearVibrations, colour changes in bodywork or interior, deformation of plastics and padding
Damage from external causesAccidents, overloading, unsuitable roads, racing, theft, vandalism, weather, salinity, scratches, unsuitable chemical products, unauthorised modifications
Servicing and fluidsScheduled servicing, engine and transmission oil, coolant, brake fluid and other lubricants
Parts with a limited service lifeBulbs, remote-control battery
Indirect costsTow truck, towing, transport and the time without the vehicle while the repair lasts

Plug-in hybrids: the battery has its own term

The electrical system is the component that most concerns anyone considering a plug-in hybrid, and JETOUR covers it separately: 8 years or 150,000 km for the high-voltage battery, together with the electric motor and the controller. This is the case for the plug-in versions of the T1, the T2 and the G700. The conventional 12 V battery, by contrast, has one year or 20,000 km.

Where warranty work is carried out

The warranty is valid only within the Republic of Panama and is handled at the distributor’s workshops. Up-to-date addresses and opening hours are on the Petromotors branches page. The service network is as follows:

  • Vía Porras
  • Transístmica
  • Costa Verde
  • David, in Chiriquí

What is worth clarifying before signing

Three points in the document tend to go unnoticed. The first: a repaired vehicle that is not collected within 48 hours incurs a daily storage charge. The second: the model year of the vehicle is determined by the VIN. The third is an omission: the text does not say whether the remaining cover passes to a second owner, so anyone buying or selling a used JETOUR should ask for that confirmation in writing.

Anyone comparing brands will find more criteria in the guide to buying a Chinese car in Panama. And the Panama Motor Show 2026, from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 11 October at the Panama Convention Center in Amador, is a good opportunity to ask for the full warranty document and read it before closing the purchase.
